Session 1

Immediate Restoration of Dental Implants: Single Tooth to Full Arch Applications
Friday, October 3, 2008

Speaker: Craig Misch DDS, MDS

New York University, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Florida

» Know more

Clinical interest and patient demand for immediate restoration and function following tooth loss and implant surgery has resulted in a significant increase in the delivery of immediately loaded implant prostheses. Clinical experience and research has proven that consistent results with immediate load prostheses are achievable. Prosthetic alternatives for single tooth, small segment and full arch prostheses will be discussed. However, any cases are better managed with a traditional staged approach using delayed or early loading protocols. Criteria for patient evaluation and case selection are reviewed. Clinical guidelines for implant surgery, immediate restoration and maintenance as well as transition to the final prosthesis will be covered.

  • Understand the differences between delayed, early and immediate loading protocols
  • Understand and identify clinical situations where immediate implant restoration is preferred
  • Understand the significance of primary implant stability and how to maintain it throughout the healing phase
  • Understand prosthetic techniques to reduce chair time and facilitate immediate implant restorations in clinical practice

Session 2 - Pharmacological Impact on Implant Dentistry
Friday, February 13, 2009

Speaker: James Rutkowski DDS, MS

» Know more

This one day interactive program will be clinically relevant and will enable each participant to utilize pharmacological principles for improved patient treatment and evaluation. Topics to be covered include how to treat patients taking anti-coagulants, anti-thrombotics, insulin, oral hypoglycemics, or bisphosphonates. Antibiotic and analgesic protocols will be presented. Drug interactions of importance will be reviewed. The program will include the “Top 10 things to know about pharmacology for your dental practice”.

Session 3 - Dental Implants and Extraction Site Bone Grafting - A clinically based surgical and prosthetic review
Friday, May 8, 2009

Speaker: Michael Tischler, DDS, FAGD

As a general dentist, it is imperative to understand the principles of implant dentistry and
bone grafting so you can treatment plan it for your patients. Implant dentistry is here to
stay and is the ideal way to replace missing teeth. Almost 20% of all US adults are
missing all their teeth according to the NIH. This course is an extensive over view of these
disciplines facilitating these modalities into your practice. This course is applicable to all implant systems and is not meant to "sell" one product. The in depth detail given in this course and many cases presented will show you what is possible and allow you to speak to your patients with confidence.
If you are looking to perform these modalities yourself this is also a great step towards that. If you already perform these modalities then this course will only further your studies. If you would like to be able to speak to your patients with more confidence about dental implants and work better with a surgical doctor, this course will allow that. As a general dentist, Dr. Tischler conveys these principles in a very approachable way, and brings it from the perspective of the prosthetic end result. Dr. Tischler brings 10 years of utilizing cone beam CT into treatment planning for implant dentistry.
Many cases are presented as well as an over-view of cone beam CT technology. Cases presented are from single tooth implants to full mouth reconstruction with ridge augmentation.
The latest technologies including Piezzo electric use, and inclusion of PDGF are covered.
The integration of implant dentistry into today’s practice yields profitability, predictability, and restoration of patient’s oral health to a level far above other modes of treatment. Dr. Michael Tischler will discuss the clinical and scientific aspects of implants, including treatment planning strategies, patient evaluation, and a clinician’s perspective on the successful inclusion of implants into a dental practice. Principles are tied in with multiple case presentations. This is a full day multimedia PowerPoint presentation that includes surgical video.
General dentists are performing over 26 million dental extractions annually, and extraction site grafting is becoming a common procedure. It is important for the general dentist to understand every aspect of this discipline. Through grafting an extraction site, bone can be maintained for dental implants, periodontal stability, prosthetic stabilization, and esthetic pontic area form. Dr. Tischler will convey the science and principles of extraction site grafting from the perspective of a general dentist. Through integrating extraction site grafting into your dental practice, an untapped resource is opened up that benefits both you and your
patients. Principles are tied in with multiple case presentations. A review and case examples of sinus grafting is also covered. A tie in with cone beam CT is integrated with treatment planning for bone grafts.

This one day course is designed to help dentists incorporate sinus augmentation into their daily implant practice. It will provide the basic and updated concepts that are important in planning your sinus lift procedures. The participants will have a detailed understanding of surgical set-up, anatomical structures related to the sinus, current techniques used (e.g., osteotome, hydraulic, balloon, lateral window approach; delayed vs. simultaneous) and post-operative management as well as how to deal with complications. The available bone grafts/agents used in sinus augmentation (e.g., autograft, allograft, xenografts and alloplast; PRP, EMD, PDGF, antibiotics) to promote soft and hard tissue healing will be discussed. The course will combine didactic lectures with video viewing of the actual procedure.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Know the background of sinus augmentation
  • Familiarize with anatomy, indications, contraindications, objectives and techniques for sinus augmentation procedure
  • Know when to use which sinus augmentation technique
  • Be able to perform and understand sinus lift procedures (video demo)
  • Know pre- and post-operative care for sinus augmentation
  • Understand the principles of why certain bone grafts/agents are used in sinus lifts
  • Know how to properly manage sinus complications
